It’s part of the positive crankcase ventilation system, and can build up with carbon over time, leading to a number of problems. Should be cleaned (takes about a minute or two on the B230FT) every oil change. IPDUSA sold a relocation kit for some engines where it’s less easily accessed.

I have a Staffy and a Manchester Terrier X. Usually when using the car I chuck my parents dogs in too, a Ridgeback X Mastiff and a Collie X. I have pics somewhere.

Nope! Typical Gumtree, seller went extremely quiet in the morning and then I got no response since. I assume it sold, which is a shame.
